Man snaps photo of hit-skip driver’s license plate: Beachwood Police Blotter

Hit-skip: Interstate 271

At 9:40 a.m. May 13, police responded to a report that a car had struck another vehicle on I-271 southbound, near the Chagrin Boulevard exit. The at-fault driver left the scene without stopping.

The driver whose car was struck, a Virginia man, 38, took a photo of the other car’s license plate, which led to that driver being cited two days later for leaving the scene of an accident. Cited was a Richmond Heights man, 50.

Prisoner escape: Richmond Road

At 2:45 p.m. May 11, a jail prisoner who had been taken for care to Ahuja Medical Center, 3999 Richmond Road, escaped from the hospital.

Police apprehended him in front of the building about 25 minutes later. The prisoner is a Cleveland man, 44.

Auto theft: Fairwood Court

At 7:50 a.m. May 11, a woman, 40, reported the theft of her car from her home.

Auto theft: Annesley Road

At 1:40 p.m. May 11, a woman, 67, reported the theft of a rental car from her property.

Theft: Chagrin Boulevard

At 11:30 a.m. May 13, police were called to Giant Eagle, 24601 Chagrin Blvd., on a report of a theft in progress. A suspect and her accomplice left the building with merchandise totaling $538.97.

Officers found and apprehended the suspects. Arrested and charged with theft were two Cleveland women, ages 59 and 57.

Breaking and entering: Cedar Road

At 12:50 p.m. May 13, a woman reported that someone had broken into a sixth-floor storage unit at The Vantage apartments, 27030 Cedar Road, and stolen items. In all, four apartment residents reported items stolen.

Stolen were three suitcases and six travel bags. The value of the stolen items was an estimated $300.

Theft from auto: Chagrin Boulevard

At 10:25 a.m. May 13, a man, 21, reported that someone had broken a window on his car and stolen his wallet from the vehicle while it was parked in the lot of The Vue apartments, 23220 Chagrin Blvd.

Possession of a controlled substance: Green Road

At 6:40 p.m. May 13, a man was found, unconscious, behind the wheel of his car in a parking lot at 3875 Green Road. EMS took the man to Ahuja Medical Center for treatment of a drug overdose.

The man, 36, of Cleveland, was cited for driving with a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, failure to maintain physical control and identity theft.

OVI: Chagrin Boulevard

At 12:15 a.m. May 14, an officer stopped a car for a marked-lanes violation. It was subsequently learned that the driver, a Twinsburg man, 32, was intoxicated.

Police arrested the man for OVI and having a blood-alcohol content greater than .017. The man was also cited for the marked-lanes violation.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 1:20 p.m. May 14, police arrested a Cleveland Heights boy, 17, for stealing merchandise valued at $42.50 from Dillard’s at Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road.

Assault on a police officer: Cedar Road

At 7:50 p.m. May 14, police responded to a call about a man and woman arguing inside Beachwood Place. Officers separated the two, then escorted them from the building.

While being escorted out, the woman, 21, of Cleveland, punched an officer. Police arrested the woman for assault on a police officer.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 6:50 p.m. May 14, police arrested a Cleveland woman, 21, for sealing four items from Dillard’s. The goods totaled $258.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 4 p.m. May 15, police were called to Beachwood Place on a report of a theft in progress. Officers arrested a Cleveland man, 23. The total value of the theft was $14.

Failure to secure a handgun: Cedar Road

At 4:40 a.m. May 16, police were informed that a man was asleep behind the wheel of his car while in the lot of Cleveland Clinic Beachwood Family Health, 26900 Cedar Road.

Officers woke the man, who said he had fallen asleep while waiting for a friend.

It was found that the man, 20, of Sanford, Fla., was wanted on a Richmond Heights police warrant for failure to appear in court. As the man was asked to step out of his car, police saw a handgun on the driver’s seat.

Police arrested the man on the warrant and charged him with failure to secure a handgun.
